 Welcome

We’re looking forward to coming to Portree on the 25th of October, and hope that you’ll be able to join us.

The open day is for anyone who can read music, who wants to see what it’s like to play with a small friendly orchestra and a very patient conductor. You might be learning an instrument, or have learnt to play in the past. Everyone is welcome! This is a great opportunity to make music, playing these 2 great pieces by Beethoven and John Williams.

The Timetable

We will start the day at 10.30am, setting up stands and music, and having a cup of tea or coffee. The music starts at 11 am, with a break at 12.30pm for the lunch which members of the orchestra will provide. At about 2.30pm we will have a short break, then play through what we have learnt, as if we were giving a concert. Your friends and family are very welcome to come along and listen.

The Music

We will be printing out the music, but can also email your part for the Beethoven before the day, if you want to try it out beforehand. If you have concerns that the music is too difficult, do let us know, as we can probably simplify it. (Some of us do that anyway!) If you have a music stand, please bring it along, but don’t worry if you haven’t.

The Venue

St Columba’s Church has about 8 – 10 parking spaces, so these will be reserved for those with heavy instruments or mobility issues. Please let us know if you need one of these spaces. There is free parking further down the road at the Community Hall. If you’re able to car share, that would be great!

Refreshments

As we are providing lunch, please let us know if you have any allergies or dietary requirements. The earlier we know, the easier it will be for us to cater for you.
